Four Victims Wounded at Howe Park Sacramento - Large Unauthorized Party Erupts in Gunfire
Saturday night, an unapproved gathering of multiple hundreds of attendees at Howe Community Park in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood became the scene of a shooting when an estimated 20 to 25 gunshots rang out as Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies were in the midst of dispersing the crowd.
How Events Unfolded
At around 6:30 PM on April 18, the Sacramento County Sheriff received calls involving persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at Howe Community Park in Sacramento. Another caller reported a possible physical altercation and subjects running away.
Air support was sent to the area and searched the park but did not locate the reported fight.
Despite this, multiple hundreds of people had gathered at the park for what law enforcement classified as an unapproved assembly. Deputies formed a perimeter around the park, activated their vehicle emergency lights, and gave the crowd approximately 15 minutes ordering the crowd to disperse over loudspeakers.
As deputies were in the process of dispersing attendees, 20 to 25 rounds of gunfire echoed through the area — causing hundreds to flee in all directions at once.
Those Injured
Four victims — three men and one woman, each in their 20s — were brought to area medical facilities. Two of the victims had serious injuries, one with moderate injuries, and one victim sustained minor injuries. All four were said to be in stable condition. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was on scene and assisted at the location.
The Crime Scene
The shooting was centered on the Cottage Way website corridor side of the park close to the nearby Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. The Home Depot store was placed under temporary lockdown. The Suspect Vehicle
Over scanner traffic, it was confirmed that a vehicle connected to the shooting — identified as a Kia — was stopped in the Solano County area with four occupants detained. Law enforcement units were en route to collect the suspects and bring them back to Sacramento for questioning. Video evidence confirmed two gunmen were present.
